Well-Being Adventure Series: Discover Outdoor Connection

|

As the academic year kicks off, Adventure WV offers an opportunity to reconnect with nature, relieve stress, and meet new friends through its Well-Being Adventure Series. Geared toward both new students and those returning to campus, this series is packed with outdoor activities that balance mental health and physical engagement, perfect for easing into the semester.

College life can be overwhelming—new classes, social pressures, and the constant push to perform academically often leave students feeling drained. The Well-Being Adventure Series provides a refreshing alternative by encouraging students to step away from their desks and into the great outdoors. From paddling on the Monongahela River to enjoying a leisurely bike ride along the scenic Rail Trail, the program focuses on relaxation, connection, and physical activity.

One of the standout events is the Paddling on the Monongahela River on September 10, where students can escape campus life for an afternoon of peaceful kayaking. The Mon River provides a serene backdrop as participants engage in casual conversation and light physical exercise, creating a space where mental clarity and social interaction thrive. The $10 registration fee is fully refunded upon attendance, making this an accessible and low-commitment way to destress.

Another highlight is the Pick Your Own Wildflowers event on September 14. Although this session is already full, it promises to be an unforgettable day at Hazel Run Farm, where participants pick wildflowers, craft their own bouquets, and unwind in nature. Activities like this are ideal for fostering mindfulness—engaging the senses, slowing down, and appreciating the beauty of the outdoors.

For those who prefer cycling, the Rail Trail Biking event on September 18 is perfect. The trail follows the Mon River, offering stunning views and a gentle biking experience for all fitness levels. Whether you're an avid biker or just looking to enjoy the fresh air, this adventure invites students to engage with nature in a low-pressure, fun environment.

To cap off the series, there's Pickleball on September 26. This event is all about fun and inclusivity—whether you’ve played before or are new to the sport, it’s designed for everyone. Pickleball is an easy-to-learn, fast-paced game that’s growing in popularity on college campuses, offering participants an energetic and engaging way to stay active while connecting with their peers.

For students new to WVU or those simply looking to reconnect after a summer away, the Well-Being Adventure Series fosters community and belonging in a relaxed, outdoor setting. Studies show that spending time in nature can lower stress levels, improve mood, and enhance focus, all of which are critical as students transition into a busy semester.

The program is also built around inclusivity. Each activity is accessible to students of all experience levels, and the events are low-cost—just $10 per session, which is refunded if you attend. This ensures that everyone can participate without worrying about financial strain.
