What Is Bridge Day All About?
Every third Saturday in October, the New River Gorge Bridge in Fayetteville, West Virginia, becomes the ultimate playground for thrill-seekers and festival lovers alike. Picture thousands of people gathering to witness base jumpers and rappellers descending into the Gorge below while you take in the stunning scenery.
The New River Gorge Bridge isn’t just a pretty sight; it’s an engineering wonder! Completed in 1977, it stands at a jaw-dropping 876 feet above the New River, making it one of the tallest bridges in the United States. With a span of 3,030 feet, this beauty was the largest arch bridge in the world at the time of its construction, and is currently the world’s fifth-longest single arch bridge. Over the years, it has become a symbol of West Virginia and a favorite spot for adventurers.
The first Bridge Day kicked off in 1980 with just a handful of parachutists. Fast forward to today, and you’ll find an entire festival celebrating all things adrenaline—from BASE jumping to rappelling, and so much more. The event has grown to include food vendors, local art, crafts, live music and a vibrant community atmosphere.
Adventure WV’s Bridge Day Shuttle
If you're looking for a hassle-free way to experience all the excitement of Bridge Day, look no further than Adventure WV’s Bridge Day Shuttle! For just $45, you can embark on an exhilarating journey to the heart of the action. There will even be the unique opportunity to walk along the underside of the bridge.
The Bridge Day Shuttle will run on Saturday, October 19, 2024, and the trip will last from 7 AM to 8 PM. The shuttle will depart from the Student Recreation Center on the Evansdale Campus and head to the New River Gorge.
The Adventure WV program allows you to immerse yourself in the festivities, meet fellow adventure enthusiasts, enjoy the cultural richness and explore the scenic beauty of the New River Gorge. Whether you’re there for the adrenaline rush or simply to enjoy the local arts, crafts, and delicious food, this shuttle service is your ticket to an unforgettable day!
Dress for the weather, and be prepared for a day outdoors! Your guides will send
a packing list ahead of time. The shuttle service provides a convenient transportation
option so you can relax and focus on enjoying the day. Just remember, the PRT operates
only from 9:30 AM to 10 PM on Saturdays, so plan accordingly.
