Spring into the Outdoors with Adventure WV

|

The spring series of trips, adventures and excursions is open to all current WVU students and covers a plethora of different activities so that students can choose one that easily fits into their schedule.

The weather is changing, and so is the  Adventure WV  and  Guided Trips  line up!

Program Coordinator  Jacob Rex  said the programs act as a stress-free way for students to enjoy the outdoors.

“Guided trips for the student body provide opportunities for students to have unique experiences, go to unique places and meet unique people,” he said. “Students can get away from Morgantown or stay in Morgantown finding hidden treasures or doing things they may have never done before.”

Students can choose from three different program formats: Aerial Adventures, Day Trips and  Overnight Trips.

While these trips do have a fee, Rex said Adventure WV aims to keep costs as low as possible for attending students.

“There are a lot of factors prohibiting students from going on our programs and the cost is a big one,” he said. “We’re very conscious of it. We actually operate at a neutral profit line, so we price our trips almost at cost to make them as affordable as possible for students.”

With the winter season coming to a close, Adventure WV is filling its final trips for downhill skiing and cross-country skiing, as well as a shuttle to Wisp Resort that runs every Wednesday or Thursday evening through March 8.

With spring activities, students can enjoy overnight or one-day excursions including hiking, ziplining, camping, white water rafting and more.

For students interested in aerial adventures, Adventure WV’s zip line canopy tours start on April 8 and run every Saturday for the remainder of the month.

Rex said one of the best parts of the trips is watching students branch out and meet new friends.

“A lot of students who go on these trips go alone, and they often go to make friends,” he said. “I think outdoor trips and specifically the guided trips with Adventure West Virginia provide a really recreational opportunity.”

Guided Trips require no prior outdoor experience or knowledge, and Rex said he enjoys helping students find a new hobby or learn a new skill on their first trip.

“All of our guided trips are specifically for beginners. We don't run intermediate or expert-level programs. Every trip is meant for folks who've never done it before,” he said. “Those are our favorite people because they are the ones that usually get the most out of it, and that teaches a lot about how we can improve as a program.”

Students who are interested in joining Adventure WV for one of its spring guided trips must register online prior to the trip's departure date. Explore the program calendar today!
