Winter Ski and Snowboard Equipment Rentals

|

Winter adventures are just around the corner, and Adventure WV is here to make sure you're ready for all the snowy fun! Starting December 9, 2024, we’re offering winter gear rentals at the Outdoor Recreation Center (ORC), and we’ve got more options than ever before! Whether you're a seasoned skier, an aspiring snowboarder, or trying out snowshoeing for the first time, we’ve got everything you need to hit the slopes or explore the snowy trails. Rentals are open to all WVU students!

Emily Chapman, Program Support Specialist for Adventure WV expresses the excitement for winter gear rentals, stating, “So the big, most exciting part that comes with the winter season are our ski and snowboard rentals.”

What Can Students Expect New This Season?

If you’ve rented winter gear from the ORC before, you’ll notice some exciting changes this year. For the first time, this year, we’re making it easier than ever to get the gear you need for your winter adventures. We’re introducing new online rental options, extended rental periods, and a variety of winter gear—all designed to help you get outside and enjoy everything West Virginia’s winter season has to offer.

Chapman explains the rental selection includes everything you need for an outdoor adventure, “So we do downhill skis that come with the whole setup, the boots, the helmet, the poles. Same for snowboards, fully set up to the user.” Chapman adds, “We do also offer cross-country skiing equipment whenever the weather’s cooperative with us, as well as snowshoes.” There is also the option of renting individual items or choosing from pre-packaged sets depending on your needs.

Here’s How It Works

In addition to the traditional in-person, same-day rentals, you can now reserve your gear online—making it super easy to plan ahead. We’ve also extended rental periods, so you can enjoy more time outdoors.

  • Same-Day Rentals: Students can walk into the ORC to rent gear on the same day!
  • Weekend Rentals: Available both online and in person. For online reservations, students can pick up gear on Thursday and return it by Monday to receive the weekend rate.
  • Extended Rentals: Want to rent gear for a whole month? You can! These rentals can be reserved online or in person. We’re offering monthly rentals with two rental periods: Jan. 15 to Feb. 12, 2025 and Feb. 12 to March 12, 2025

If your desired gear is sold out online, no worries! Just stop by the ORC to make an in-person reservation. Students can also reserve gear through the Adventure WV website or the WVUGo platform.

Where and When Can You Rent?

The ORC is located inside the Student Recreation Center on the West Virginia University, Morgantown campus. It is open Monday through Saturday, with varying hours, which can be seen on our website. Reservations can also be made online through our website.

Why Rent From Adventure WV

Renting gear from Adventure WV has a ton of benefits. Not only do we offer high-quality, well-maintained equipment, but renting from us is also a budget-friendly way to enjoy winter sports without the commitment of buying your own gear. Whether you’re trying something new or just need gear for a weekend getaway, we’ve got you covered.

Chapman states, “I love the affordability aspect, so our rentals are usually about half to a third of the cost of what it would be to go to a resort.” She adds, “So it’s convenient, it’s affordable, and it also is a nice chance to try out the gear before you look into purchasing your own.”

Renting gear is a great way to try new activities, keep your winter adventures affordable, and make the most of your time in the great outdoors.
